The Three Motives That We Live & Should Strive To Have Full Expresson Of Them In Life body, we live for the mind, we live for the soul.

In the book the Science of Getting Rich by Wallace D. Wattles he brought up an interesting topic in Chapter 1 - The Right To Be Rich.

The statement he made was There are three motives for which we live; we live for the body, we live for the mind, we live for the soul. - The Science of Getting Rich by Wallace D. Wattles.

In my personal studies of mind, body & spirit I saw living as developing these aspects of myself not as motive that influences how I want to live.

After coming across another statement made in Chapter 1 - The Right To Be Rich which was There are three motives for which we live; we live for the body, we live for the mind, we live for the soul. No one of these is better or holier than the other; all are alike desirable, and no one of the three—body, mind, or soul—can live fully if either of the others is cut short of full life and expression. It is not right or noble to live only for the soul and deny mind or body; and it is wrong to live for the intellect and deny body or soul. - Science of Getting Rich by Wallace D. Wattles

That statement made me realize my understanding of self mastery was not accurate. As Christian I always had in the back of my mind DIE TO THE FLESH, LIVE BY THE SPIRIT.

This caused me to only focus on mostly on mental and spiritual aka the mind & soul. More that I did my body and physical aspects. I thought focusing on my mental and spirit state was more important but as he said when It comes to mind, body, soul none is HOILIER than the other.

As I got older I could see why more focus on my body especially when it came to fitness was just important in comparison to my mind & soul.

Now what really caught my attention was when he made some statements in Chapter 5 - Increasing Life.

These statements made me realize how much I had not understand what it meant to have self master while hear on earth because although I wanted to get rich I was also trying to deny living in a fancy way but only be rich so I can contribute to charities throughout the world.

However this is what was said in the book about how to truly have REAL LIFE You must want real life, not mere pleasure of sensual gratification. Life is the performance of function; and the individual really lives only when he performs every function, physical, mental, and spiritual, of which he is capable, without excess in any.

He continues to say You do not want to get rich in order to live swinishly, for the gratification of animal desires; that is not life. But the performance of every physical function is a part of life, and no one lives completely who denies the impulses of the body a normal and healthful expression.

For me I was doing just that I'm my desire to master self I was denying the impulses of the body because I consider that to gratifyingy animal or fleshy desires but then I realized there can be normal and healthy expressions of my physically life.

Then he shared You do not want to get rich solely to enjoy mental pleasures, to get knowledge, to gratify ambition, to outshine others, to be famous. All these are a legitimate part of life, but the man who lives for the pleasures of the intellect alone will only have a partial life, and he will never be satisfied with his lot.

This a mind blowing to me because that's exactly what I was doing. I was focusing primarily on the mental development gaining knowledge, hoping to be a renaissance man of the 21st century. A well known public figure known for his knowledge and wisdom. This made me realize I was living a partial life especially because I was stuck in over thinking life, not truly taking action to accomplish things, and just a day dreamer with a head full of knowledge and wisdom.

Lastly he made this statement that hit my soul and ego very hard. You do not want to get rich solely for the good of others, to lose yourself for the salvation of mankind, to experience the joys of philanthropy and sacrifice. The joys of the soul are only a part of life; and they are no better or nobler than any other part.

As I shared my desire was to get rich to be able to contribute to charities around the world. However as he stated the joys of the souls are not better or nobler than any other part of life.

At this chapter I understood that self mastery was keeping a balance between how I live my life mentally, physically, and spiritually.

As he shared in the book You want to get rich in order that you may eat, drink, and be merry when it is time to do these things; in order that you may surround yourself with beautiful things, see distant lands, feed your mind, and develop your intellect; in order that you may love men and do kind things, and be able to play a good part in helping the world to find truth.

This rekindled my desire to become wealthy in life because now I understand it's okay to live quality in all areas and not just focus on my mental and spiritual aspect to things.

This was apart of what it means to develop TRUE SELF MASTERY.
